Lisbon: Then and Now — A Journey Through Time
Lisbon is a city where time seems to flow in layers. Around every corner, you can still feel the whispers of the past — in its cobblestone streets, the tiles on its façades, and the ever-present yellow trams climbing the hills.
I wanted to explore that connection between then and now, and that’s how this project began.
I started by searching online for old photographs of Lisbon — scenes from decades ago, full of life, history, and character. Then, camera in hand, I went out to find those exact same locations today. I matched the angles, the perspectives, and the framing as closely as possible, capturing how those places look in the modern city.
Back in Photoshop, I carefully blended the two eras together. The result is a visual conversation between old Lisbon and new Lisbon — where past and present coexist in a single frame.
It’s fascinating to see how much has changed… and how much hasn’t. The trams are still running, the buildings still bear the marks of time, and the spirit of the city remains unmistakably Lisbon.
Through this project, I wanted people to reflect on how cities evolve — how life moves forward but memories remain etched into the walls and streets.
Lisbon continues to change, but its soul is timeless.
